Our Story
The story behind Kaivro.
We did not set out to build a finance app. We set out to answer one question at the kitchen table: where did the money go this month?
The drawer
Every household has one. A drawer, a bag, a corner of the car where receipts go to be forgotten. Ours was no different.
Two cards, one from each of us. Cash for the market. A shared account for the bills. At the end of the month we knew the totals, because the bank told us. We had no idea what was in them.
"Groceries" was the biggest line every month, and it explained nothing.
The spreadsheet
So we did what everyone does. A spreadsheet, a column per person, a row per receipt. It was accurate for about three weeks.
"Typing a forty-line receipt on a Sunday evening is not a habit anyone keeps."
— The realisation that started Kaivro
The problem was never the maths. It was the capture. If getting a receipt into the ledger takes longer than paying for it, the ledger dies.
The receipt, read by a machine
We had built AI features for a previous app, so we tried the obvious thing: photograph the receipt and let a model read it. It worked better than we expected. Product by product, with a category for each line, in a few seconds.
Then the second obvious thing: say the expense out loud when there is no receipt. "Fifty lei on fuel." Done.
Once capture took seconds, the rest of the idea fell into place. A house instead of a wallet. Members instead of a single user. Common lines and personal lines. Who paid. A report that answers the kitchen-table question without anyone typing.
What we care about
"Show the whole family where the money actually goes.
Down to the product."
That is the promise, and it sets the rules. Capture in seconds or people stop. The whole household, not one person. Personal lines stay personal. Financial data is sensitive, so it stays in the EU and can be deleted by you at any time.
Kaivro is made in Romania by DOITDEV SRL, starting with Romanian receipts and RON, and built to grow from there.
